Involvement on Campus: Community Service Leadership Council & Athens Beautification Day

How did you choose Ohio University?

I really liked the campus — the bricks and all the trees are beautiful, especially in the fall. Also, the university has a lot opportunities both within and outside of my major.

How did you choose your major, and what excites you most about it?

I have always loved numbers, and I can appreciate how math can be applied to a variety of different fields.

Have you ever used career or leadership training services on campus?

Yes, the CLDC has helped me a lot since I was a freshman, from getting my resume together, earning leadership certificates, and even helping to prepare for the Career and Internship Fairs.

Have you taken on any leadership roles at OHIO? If so, please describe.

One of my most important leadership roles was directing Athens Beautification Day last year. It is the largest day of community service on campus and involved a significant amount of planning and coordinating with a lot of different campus and community organizations, but it was very rewarding.

Tell us about one of your most significant career development experiences at OHIO.

I think one of the most significant experiences was going through the career coaching services in the CLDC. It was very helpful in answering specific questions I had about my field, fine-tuning my resume, and even creating a plan for finding internships and later a job.

What is your favorite thing about being a Bobcat?

My favorite thing about being a Bobcat is the strong alumni network. Meeting people in the career that I want to go into or seeing someone in Ohio University gear on are always very nice and willing to share their experiences.

What advice would you give to your fellow Bobcats?

Always have a plan—for your academics, career, personal life, etc.—but be willing to be flexible when things don’t go according to the original plan.

What will you be doing after graduation, and how did you get that job?

After graduation, I will be working with PNC Bank.  I found that specific job after I uploaded my resume to Handshake, which matched me with what kind of position I was searching for and helped me get the job.
