What is your favorite leadership role currently and why?
I am currently a co-owner and operator of Barefoot Rental Company, LLC. It is a cabin rental business in which we currently have two cabins for rent in Burr Oak State Park. I really enjoy sharing these cabins with others and making a profit as well. I also like to have two other homes to decorate!
What was your first job ever?
Aside from being a custodian for my mother’s business, which I don’t really call a “real” job since it was family run, I was a clerk at a convenience store/ice cream shop.
What was your best career or leadership experience during college?
I was the president of the Scandinavian Club at University of Alberta. It was great to organize discussion groups and line up speakers and events to celebrate my heritage with others of Scandinavian background.
How did you find your first job after undergrad?
I worked all through university so I just continued working as a Client Sales Representative for Budget Rent-a-Car in Edmonton, Alberta. Eventually I decided to teach and travel and took off to South Korea to teach ESL for almost two years.
I am an avid gardener therefore it made sense to join a gardening club. I went through the extensive Master Gardener Volunteer training course in 2009 and have been very involved in many of the programs and volunteer aspects of this organization since joining the group. I am also a volunteer for the Shade Community Center, which is the small community outside of Athens where I reside.
What is your favorite place in Athens?
The City of Athens has many parks that are well maintained and very enjoyable to visit. I also enjoy Emeriti Park on Ohio University campus. My favorite place in Athens County would be the vista view on Dutch Ridge Road near Shade Creek. The rolling Appalachian hills are breath taking, especially in the spring and fall.
What is the best place you’ve ever traveled? Why?
The best place I have ever travelled would be South Korea. The people make this country the best experience. They are truly the most hospitable people and have the richest culture. The food was phenomenal and shopping was extremely affordable. Travel was easy and destinations were abundant. I hope to go back again very soon!
